Hi there! Are you a fan of soft and fluffy towels? They feel so nice and cozy! But, did you know that you can create your own type of towel by doing embroidery? Embroidery is a great idea that involves using threads of different colors to create appealing patterns and designs over the piece of fabric (in this case, your towels). And now, let us get into it and how you can best customize your towels with embroidery!
To take your towels to the next level, here are a few essentials. Step one: Get a towel to be dressed soutache. It can be any towel you want, perhaps one that is for your everyday use or a specific one saved for guests. Then you need something like an embroidery hoop. The towel stays in this hoop as you design, so that you can easily stitch. Then you have some of these colourful thread embroidery. These threads are available in a multitude of colors, so pick your favorites! Finally, you need a needle. This needle will be used to sew the design to your towel.
Step 1: Pick a design to place on your towel This can be anything simple, such as your name or initials, or something cute; a favourite shape, star or even animal! With your design thought-out, all you have to do now is get it onto the rectangular surface of cotton that going to take a bath in. You can either do this free-hand drawing on the towel, or use stencils to make your work easier, or you could print your design onto transfer paper and place them on towels. You then take the towel and food it inside the embroidery hoop. Ensure that your design is placed perfectly in the middle of the hoop so it is right when you start stitching.
Step 2: Choose your colors of thread and thread your needle. When you begin your embroidery, the needle comes up from underneath the towel. Sew along the lines of your design (for best results do this in up to 4 vertical line sections) Care needs to be taken to follow the lines as closely as possible for a good-looking design. Once complete with a color, you knot that off and move on to your next one. Continue like this until your entire layout is complete and it looks nice!
Backstitch: This is also a very similar stitch works well for outline and writing letters. For a backstitch: Pull the needle through the towel, then stick it down in the same place. Next pull the needle further up and down, then place it at the end of the first stitch. Continue like this along the line to make a nice outline.
French knot – This one adds a really fun texture and looks so pretty! First step to create a french knot — bringing the needle up through the towel. To use, wrap the thread twice around the needle. Pull the needle back down into that same spot while tensioning the thread. That creates a little nugget which pops up from the towel.
Satin stitch: Great for larger area fills. To satin stitch bring the needle up through the towel and then insert it back down a few millimeters away. Next, insert the needle next to that first stitch (so that they touch). Repeat until the whole region is colored.
